Strange dream

I dreamed I was walking through some sort of post apocalypse area. Lots of abandoned buildings. Lots of plants growing up on roads and places they wouldn’t if things were still running.
What had happened wasn’t clear. But, it being fairly empty was clear.

As I wandered around I was found by some folks in homemade clothes who invited me to come with them. I knew there was some sort of cult in the area that was trying to get everyone to join, so I was wary, but also didn’t want to fight them.

They brought me to a long wooden building that was in much better shape than most of the others in the area.
“We’re about to have a feast,” I was told. “Please join us.”

I was hungry, but also worried that they were going to try and drug me as part of getting me to join their group. They did have a lot of food that they brought out.
I was careful about what I ate, trying to make sure the things I ate were less likely to be drugged.
I avoided casseroles, but did have some chicken. I ate some fruit, but not stew.

“You have to try the cake,” several of them told me. “You don’t get cake anymore, and this is great cake!”
I avoided the cake.

After the dinner they had a meeting to read selections out of their holy book. It turned out to be a science fiction book I had read years before, so I actually knew some of what they were talking about.

The group broke into small discussion groups and I was assigned one with the actress Colby Minifie (https://www.imdb.com/name/nm2281371/?ref_=nmbio_bio_nm ).
She seemed very impressed that I knew some of the material.
“I read this book back in the ‘90’s,” I told her. “But, at the time it was regarded just as a science fiction book.”
“That’s right!” She said. She showed me the front cover of her book and it said “based on the best selling novel” in the upper right corner of it. The cover had a lot of blue sky and the font was more like most bibles.

In the dream I thought the book was one of David Brin’s (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Brin ) but, I didn’t get the title and from the passages I read it doesn’t line up with any of his books I have read. And, I’ve read a fair number of them.
Yesterday on my Kindle, it suggested one of his books (Kiln People) that I read more than 20 years ago. So, that’s probably where the idea of his books from a while ago comes from.

I have been working on the post apocalyptic comic I’m doing, Robot Ren Faire, set after humans have died out. (https://frankscomics.dreamwidth.org) So, I’ve been going around trying to take photos of places that look abandoned to use as backgrounds in it. I think that’s where that comes from.

I’m not sure about the cult thing. I can’t think of anything I’ve seen or heard about cults lately.
The same with Colby Minifie. I’ve seen her in several shows, but none that I’ve watched recently.
Those two are a mystery.
