Update on my aunt

I talked with my aunt again today. (I have actually talked with her almost every day since Friday…)
Things are not more clear.
The only thing that is consistent is that she and her husband have to leave their retirement home before this Friday.
She’s no longer sure it has anything to do with fire or arson.
Several folks did offer to help her. But, the home is packing up for her and helping her move.
The home also arranged for a new place for them. It’s actually closer to where I live than where they had been.
It’s a place that specializes in memory problems for older folks.
When I asked my aunt about what was going to happen to her cat, she couldn’t remember the name of my cousin who lives near her.
"That cousin of yours is taking the cat," she said. "You know. That woman. Has two kids. Lives near me."
"Joanne?" I asked.
"Yes! That’s the one!"
My aunt also tells me that she had requested that she and her husband move from their apartment into the assisted living area of their home.
So, here is what I know:
My aunt asked to move to assisted living instead just elderly apartments.
The home said she had to move to a different place that specializes in memory problems.
The home is packing and moving all their stuff for them, and arranging storage for what they can’t bring with them.
My aunt can’t remember names of folks or pets.
My thought is:
Maybe they didn’t have space in their assisted living place and since my aunt and her husband have memory problems, decided to move them to this associated place.
Someone might have said something like "we’re afraid you’ll forget to turn off the stove and it might start a fire" or something liked that, which my aunt took as an accusation of arson.
But, even if it is that more benign reason, it’s still very strange to give them so little notice.
Of course, memory problems, maybe she forgot other notices?
I don’t know.
It still seems very strange.
But, maybe if they’re going to a memory place, it will help them?
I hope so.
We’ll see…
