Quantum turkeys
Nov. 25th, 2008 09:15 amLast night my wife and I went to see the new James Bond movie Quantum of Solace.
I liked it. Not quite as much as “Casino Royal” but more than most of the other Bond movies that have come out in a long time.
And, I’ve always loved the title.
I understand where it comes from. I’ve read the short story, which has nothing to do with the movie other than the title.
But, with the movie promotional material showing Bond with a rifle next to the title, it means something different to me.
A quantum is the smallest measure of something. In the original story it is used as the smallest measure of feeling between two people for a marriage to survive.
But, the preview and posters are very revenge focused. Bond’s love was killed and he wants revenge.
And, the image of him with the rifle next to the tile says to me “revenge can give you solace, but only the smallest possible measure of it.”
That is something I’ve long believed. But, the preview really hit it with me. It’s rare one of your beliefs is graphically portrayed on the big screen. (Well, it’s rare for me. Don’t know about you.)
The movie does address that issue. And, over all it was a pretty good movie. I didn't want any caffeine that late in the day, so I had a blue drink. I'm not really sure what flavor it was. Blue I guess.
We also saw the preview of the new Star Trek movie coming out next spring.
I’ve been a Star Trek fan since the original show was on the air in the mid 60’s.
I’m not sure about this movie.
It certainly looks to be visually impressive.
But, that is far from proof I'll like it. The last one looked nice, but I hated it.
I guess we’ll see next May…
Finally, I showed how our foyer at work was full of frozen turkeys yesterday. Everyone in the office got one to take home for the holiday. I figured they were frozen and the foyer wasn’t too warm, so they’d still be frozen when I got it home.
But, I’m worried about the ones that were still there this morning…

I suppose if it has been as cold in the foyer as it is in a typical fridge, then they are probably OK for now.
