MRF day one

The first day of the Mobile Renaissance faire went well. It was, for Mobile, cold at 60 degrees. But, there was an almost constant wind that was almost as bad as ISD last month. This time we didn’t have adorabrightmoon to hold the tent down, so I spent some time holding on to it. We did manage to get it to stay, but I was worried for a while.

The shows went well enough. No major mistakes. No major crowd going crazy for it either. The folks from KY seemed to integrate surprisingly well for having no rehearsals with us.

We had a creepy guy who liked out first show, and hung around us the rest of the day. I tried several times to shoo him over to other shows, but it didn’t work. Even when I said “I’m going to watch the joust as I think it’s the coolest thing at the faire, why don’t you come watch too?” he didn’t.

I was very surprised, and happy, to see David T at our shows. He’s joined us for a bunch of the southern shows, but we didn’t think he could this year. But, just after noon, there he was as a patron. We still involved him in our act.
Just as a future point of reference, if you take someone who appears to be an audience member and smash a bottle over his head for mouthing off to you, the audience gets all weird on you.

My pink shirt/red shirt swap seemed to have just the effect on capt_amos I wanted. I was very happy about that. My great thanks to blue_micha for the red shirt. The key to switching shirts in front of a big audience without them noticing is to do it when something more interesting is going on. It works.

Dinner at the Golden Coral went well. They were very nice about us asking for a table for 20. We didn’t all get at one table, but were all near each other. capt_amos said something at dinner that made lemonade come out my nose. Sadly, I don’t remember what. So, I’m old even when my underwear is on the right way...

We had our usual debrief, and now I hope to get some sleep.

I'm glad you liked it. I've been planning it since Gulf Coast in March.
