November is here
Nov. 1st, 2008 08:32 pmSo, now it’s November. I like November. One reason November seems particularly nice is my wife is doing a count down to my birthday with a present each day.
Today she got me some “ninja shoes”. She says that isn’t what they are, they’re “martial arts” shoes. But, they look like ninja shoes to me.
Maybe I’ll wear them at practice tomorrow. They should give good grip.
Today, one of the people we sometimes contract for shows with Phoenix Swords was having an open house at their dance studio. While I’m not big on that sort of thing, my wife and
I drove them out there because about 15 minutes from the place is one of my favorite bookstores, The Book Bear
(Come on, I like bears and have always loved books. How can you beat the combination? They have really good books too...)
I got:
A book on folktales
A book on censorship I hope to use for ren faire stuff
A book on plays I hope to use for ren faire stuff
A book I’m hoping to use to write a different kind of act for Phoenix next year.
A song book
The big problem with the place is that it is hard to get to. It takes about an hour down fairly small roads that go through a lot of small towns.

There are a bunch of ways to get there, but all take at least an hour and much more if you get caught in traffic.
But, today was fairly good.
And, it is a nice town that it is in.

I thought this house was particularly nice.

After I got my books (with a short side trip to an ATM because they don’t take credit cards) I headed back to meet the ladies.
Going back the sun was behind me and I could appreciate the view more.

It really is a very nice part of the state.

If only there were jobs out there, I’d be much more likely to try and live there.

The town where the studio is nice too with a nice tower looking over the town.

I could see how crowded it was as I waited.

I was glad to be outside on the nice day with my car of books and my iPod.
It was still a long drive home, but traffic wasn’t bad so it was fun.
It was a nice way to spend a Saturday.

Date: 2008-11-02 02:04 am (UTC)so many awesome bookstores, so little time. And Amazon ships directly to your door 'discretely'. I know, I know, a habit I must regulate.

Walking through stacks of old books to discover cool one?
Just can't beat that.

Date: 2008-11-02 02:57 pm (UTC)"my recommendations" are usually pretty dumb anyway ;D
on a side note - if you ever are in the areas, Taunton and Hingham have some unbelievable architecture and houses. Well, then again, most of the state has some great stuff in it :D That's one reason why I like being here.
