Trip to England, day 12

I was happy to see that breakfast at the hotel involved individually wrapped sugar cubes to avoid issues with phone thieves.

The hotel is very nice, but the view wasn’t the nicest.

The hotel was not super far from the British Museum, so we walked.

We walked by this place, that made me wonder.

And, who knows about pink sheep?

I’m not sure this sign and the locks and points on the fence go together.

We got to the museum before they officially opened. But, they allowed folks into on gallery, including several tour groups.

When we were in New Zealand, we saw some performers. Apparently they are world famous as their leader’s photo is in the British museum.

The day after we got back, I read a story about this statue and the museum being asked to give it back. So, I guess it’s good to have seen it while I could.

It is good to know the British museum has benches.

But, it also has the 4 horsemen of the apocalypse.

My wife liked this "coat", but it is actually a ceramic sculpture.

My wife loves jade, so she was excited to see an exhibit on it.

As I had a few days before, we spent a lot of time in the British and European history sections.

My wife was very taken with the Sutton Hoo objects.

She said she liked seeing the backs of the Lewis Chessmen as normally you only see the fronts.

This casket said it was Frank’s, but they wouldn’t let me take it home.

(They did actually have a replica for sale I thought was cool. But, not 250 pounds cool.)
This sword is much like the one my wife gave me when we got married.

I know I’m big on swords, but I do like other things too…

I also like the watches from the time period we do in shows…

We do a show for kids on Saint George. It doesn’t look like this at all…

By lunch we went out the front and my wife found us a cafe in a hidden courtyard down a street.

This isn’t how I normally get bangers and mash…

We took the Underground off to the Tower of London.

My wife likes castles and this is one.

But, it’s very different from the castles we saw in Wales. This is maintained at a different level. So, it’s more like a Disneyland castle than the Welsh ones.

It’s still very nice.

They did have benches…

We did see the raven pens but not the chicks that were around somewhere.

The adult ones were about.

According to my mother, we’re depended from the kings who built this. (As is well more than half of the other folks from England…)
But, it was still interesting to see the "family" bedroom.

The Royal Armories has a branch there in the oldest tower, so we went to that. We’ve now been to 2/3 of their branches. Or 3/4 of the branches they used to have before the one in the US closed…

They’ve got a lot of armor and stuff.

We both liked this helm.

They do have plenty of stuff from the original tower too.

They did have the personal swords of many recent monarchs. They didn’t have Elizabeth or Victoria. Not sure why not…

Many museums we’ve been to have combination sword/guns. This was the only one we’d seen with an axe/gun.

They did have some strange things too.

I liked the store room.

When back outside, we saw one of the ravens up close.

And, we did get pretty close. Close enough to see the ID band.

It roamed about some, then came to sing to my wife.

But, once it finished its song it retreated to the wall.

We did not wait in the torture line as we had no interest.

So, we exited, walked around the castle, and then back to the Underground to the hotel.
