Gulf Coast Ren Faire, Part 1

The day we left started snowy.


Our first stop was at the rental car company where we picked up our van. It wasn’t the usual kind because Ford stopped making those.


I had to go in to work and make a presentation to a customer. They let me be the first presenter, so I was able to get back out by 10:30. Then, I drove home, and we got everyone in the van to go. To lunch.


But, post lunch we were on the road south.


Everyone enjoys sitting in the van for 24 hours.


We picked up Devin in CT and he got us back to the highway through some roads not made for that 12 passenger van.


Turns out the magician we brought and Devin were old friends. That worked out well.


We found this church’s symbol very noticeable in the woods of CT…


Then down the highway by the river, and into New York City traffic.



It was still before evening rush hour, so we got through the city fairly quickly.


Then, into New Jersey.


You can actually see New York better from New Jersey.


We continued south as the sun went down.



We thought the clouds looked like ostriches.


We continued through the night, only stopping for gas.


By morning we were in the south.


It’s nice and green there.


I drove. Some folks got rest.


Eventually, we went off the highway and through Alabama and Florida.


And, to the faire.


Maybe it says something that they need a "turn here" sign at the end of a road…


Maybe it is just the amount of space there.


The family of glass met us there so we had 12 people putting up the tent. I think it may be the fastest we’ve ever done it.


Then, back over to Pensacola for dinner and our hotel.


We ate at the Mellow Mushroom pizza place. As far as I’ve been able to tell, it is the only decent pizza in Pensacola.


I managed to stay awake through most of dinner.


Then, off to the hotel.


Tom met us there and then we had to bring him to the airport to return his rental car.


Finally, back to the hotel were I slept for the next 11 hours or so…
