I forgot another doctor story

One of the things about my doctor is she refuses to believe I’m not in worse shape than I am.
I am old and fat.
I’m not going to try and say anything that disputes that.
But, we keep having these go arounds:
"Your blood sugar will be bad!" "Oh, it’s OK…"
"Your cholesterol will be bad!" "Oh, it’s OK…"
"Your other blood tests will be bad!" "Oh, it’s OK…"
I understand. She’s trained that older fat people are a certain way and expects me to be that way.
Today it was about nerve problems in my feet. It is a sign of diabetes, and I’m fat. So, good chance I’ll have that.
"Do you have any numb areas or tingling areas in your feet?" she asked me.
"Not unless I sit on them and make them go to sleep," I told her.
"Lie back and close your eyes. I want you to tell me when you feel my finger touch your toes."
Something did touch my toes.
"Do you feel my finger?" she asked.
"I feel your metal pen," I told her. "And I can tell you are using the writing end with the tip retracted because I can feel the hollow in the circle of the outer tip."
"Hey, that’s right!"
"Can I sit up now?"
I guess it is a good way to test if someone is lying. If you have sensation, you should be able to tell a cold metal pen from a person’s finger.
But, I’m not thrilled with the idea of her thinking I’m lying about things.
I’ll give her this, my blood pressure is always high when I’m there.
25 or so points higher than I measure at home…
