Roaming about Melbourne

fbhjrThis morning we got up and headed off past the Godzilla signs to the museum.
We got to the National Gallery of Victoria.

The museum opened early. That never happens at home...
We went right for the stained glass ceiling as my wife loves stained glass.
In the garden my wife saw a piece she recognized from a museum visit we went to back home.

A big one in the garden made me think car wash. I guess that was spot on...
I thought it was fun.
The mirror maze was cool, but a bit strange.
They have some funky stuff there...
There was one gallery where I walked in and said "that one there is good." Turned out to be a Rembrandt...
This one is one I'd never heard of before, but seemed stop on.
We had lunch in the tea room. I had one of the fanciest and best roast beef sandwiches I can remember.
Then, off to look at the rest of Melbourne.
Yesterday we had noted the river tours when we were up the tall tower, so today we decided to take one.
The river seemed a great place to look for Pokémon...
The tour was mostly about the bridges we went under.
Then, we decided to head off to another museum.
We went past this place. I think we may be meeting people there the day after tomorrow...
That section of the city has free trams. That's cool!
Free trams means EVERYONE wants to ride them. That is very literally not cool. It was beastly hot in them.
But, it save a couple of miles walk.
The Melbourne Museum is near a big park that seems nice.
It's next to this big building.
While we were there it began to pour outside.
But, that didn't stop us seeing things like a 3D manifestation of the seal of Australia.
Or, posing with it...
Or, giant whale skeletons.
Lots of folks seemed to take their photo in front of the waterfall, so...
It was still pouring rain out. The stuff we had bought in the shop was in a paper bag. And, we had bought books at the first museum.
I'm pretty waterproof, but I was worried about those things.
So, I bought an umbrella.
But, it wasn't designed to keep stuff dry...
I had thought the free trams were crowded and hot before the rain. But, once the rain started...
This is after the stop when half the people got off. I couldn't get the camera out before that as it was too crowded to move my arms.
The good news was the rain mostly let up by the time we came to the closest tram point to our apartment.
So, the walk back from the trams was easier.
After much debate about dinner, we entered up sharing my wife's leftovers from the night before so we could turn in early.
Tomorrow we're off to Tasmania for a day.
We'll see how that goes...

And yay ... Flinders Street Station - that building is so pretty as well.
