Tales of Halloween past

For more than a decade before I got my Livejournal, I kept a journal electronically.
Usually as a Word file, but a few other formats as well. I still have those files and try to make sure they stay in a format I can read.

Today is Halloween and I am always worried about driving around. This story from 11 years ago explains why.
I will point out that soon after they put a second stop sign on that side road. I suspect because this woman complained to the police I hadn’t yielded to her and she got mad saying it wasn’t well marked.
Who knows?
I will still be on watch driving home tonight…

Usually when I see a traffic accident, I stop and help. At the very least, if I witness one I wait until I’m sure they don’t need any witnesses before I leave.
Not last night.
I was driving home along one of the streets near my house. It was dark. It was Halloween. So, I was going slower than normal and looking out for kids that might be out trick or treating.
There is a cross road that comes out onto the road I was on. I saw another car there at the stop sign. As it was stopped, I didn’t think anything of it as I drove down the road.
As I got closer, it pulled out in front of me. It was turning left, so it passed right in front of my car. It’s a good thing I had been going slow looking for kids or I probably could not have missed the other car.
As it passed me, the woman driving yelled at me for not letting her pull out.
My window was down so I yelled back “Hey, you had the stop sign.”
She gave me the finger and hit the gas. Since she had not fully straightened out her car this took her off the road and into a tree on the other side.

As I said, I normally stop and help.
But, I just couldn’t.
She ran the stop sign, almost hit me, yelled at me for it, gave me the finger, then drove off the road.
I think she’s way too stupid to live. And, if I had tried to stop and help, I’m sure I would have felt the need to do something about someone that dumb driving around my home town.
So, I just went home.
