We make perforated panels that let air flow through them.
We make solid metal panels for stopping sound.
Today, a customer called and asked for a perforated panel, that lets air through, that would also stop sound.
"Just let the air through, not the sound with it," they said.
So, I guess I need a sound filter. Anyone got one?

Foam will stop the refection of sound, but isn't so good at stopping sound passing through. That usually takes density, which is why we use steel panels for it.

Ahh Density!

Sounds like a major component of the customer driving the Reqirement!

Damn!

Inside voice, use your inside voice! LOL

I think that it would take a solid panel with lots of very teeny holes in it - won't pass air very well, but the mfgr costs of laser drilling thousands of
.005" (or smaller) DIA holes would be cost prohibitive. Or, I am sure that the guys at BOSE could sell you an electronic system with a speaker to generate anti-phase sound waves on one side of the wall (putting a microphone on the oppositve side to capture the impinging sound waves) so the net effect would be silence. They are doing this technology on some upscale Lexus cars at the moment - all it takes is money !

You know, we worked on this one.
When the acoustics engineer said it would cost $20,000 for him to develop the design, we told him to stop.

If you've got some of the spray, and it works over the phone, please send it along!

Umm, how about sending the air-flow wall with a case of earplugs.
