So, here is Google Earth’s look at the same area I photographed from the plane 4 years ago.
Google has a nice “measure the distance” tool that takes into account scale
and such and is therefore very useful.
So, I’ve had it draw out the two routes I normally take.
When I’m tired, the weather isn’t good, or I don’t have a lot of time, I
take the short one through the condo complex near me and back behind the
strip malls. Sometimes I loop it a few times if it goes fast. (I did that
one twice yesterday and still got home before the timer went off for
dinner.)
I like the longer one better as it doesn’t repeat and is nicer than the
back of stores. But, it has more of a hill as well.
The whole area is on top of a ridge and I do my best not to get off of it.
Once I get off of it, it’s a lot of work to get back on. But, the ridge
goes for a couple of miles, so it’s not too bad. (No, Google does not
appear to have an altitude tool, so I haven’t been able to figure out the
vertical distances yet…)
