We got up and had a nice breakfast at the hotel before heading off.

A couple of centuries ago my father’s mother’s family lived in a small town in Northern Ireland. I’ve wanted to stop by and see it for a long time now, but never managed it.
Since it was only a 90 minute drive away from where we were, we decided to set off through the “nice Irish weather” to see it.

It was not hard to find.

We walked about some, visited the local supermarket and then moved on. No real sights of interest there, just me wanting to see one of the places my family used to live.

We had found that my wife had not packed shoes suitable for dinner on the ship, so we set out for a shopping mall to find some new ones.

She found some shoes that would fit better than the waterproof ones she brought for climbing up hills, but decided not to buy the “Boston” had they had 3000 miles away from Boston. Who knew our city was so famous?

Then, back to small roads, hills and stones piled on top of each other…

My wife had wanted to go to Newgrange, the most famous rocks on hills in Ireland. But, you’ve got to buy tickets in advance and I had not tried in time and they were all sold out.
But as it was a rainy day, I thought “let’s stop by and see if folks cancelled.”

They had an opening for the “quick” tour that was only an hour and didn’t go inside the monument, but we were fine with that as we’ve been inside before. I took a lot of photos of the Boyne river as we have a friend who is a singer and does a song about “clear is the water that flows in the Boyne” and we argue about that. I say it is clear, just the bottom is mud…

Peter, our tour guide, did an excellent job.

He pointed out one of the other two monument you can see nearby, Knowth, that we hadn’t been able to see last time we were here.

He did not at all mind my questions…

It’s a nice tour and we had a good time…

This time it was my wife without her raincoat when the rain started.

When we got back to the hotel we found the traditional large Irish spider waiting for us. It wouldn’t be a trip to Ireland without these…

It was a good bit of driving, but we saw some cool stuff. Tomorrow we go to the ship and cruise away.
