Cleaning on a Saturday…

Three weeks from now the god kids are coming to spend a week with us. As they are both in double digit years we thought they should both get separate rooms to sleep.
The spare room isn’t a problem. Got the spare bed there. Maybe it needs to be inflated a bit more, but that isn’t hard.

Last year we put the other bed out in the living room. But, that leaves the big patio window.
So, we decided we should do the other bed in "the office".

OK, our godson is not the largest 10 year old out there. But, can’t fit a bed for him there.

So, we decided to clean it up and rearrange some of the furniture in there to make space for a bed.

Once we got going, we found a major problem. Two of the bookcases had snapped.

They were in the corner of the room, and snapped away out of the corner. I’m not sure how that happened.

But, we unloaded everything from them so we could replace them. I found some of the books had been there so long that the dragons in the stories had turned into fossils.

We also found some of our sword troupe promotional material from 2003.

(None of those people have been in the troupe in at least 8 years. One did keep doing some guest star appearances for us up until 3 years ago…)

Then, we went to lunch. Yay.

(Well, we had to go out to buy new bookcases anyhow. And, drop off all the old clothes we found for charity. Why not get lunch too, right?)

But, then home to deal with the old cases.

Just to make sure I didn’t run off again, the door was guarded.

The new racks are much tougher. They are rated to hold 1.5 tons.

And, inflatable daleks should be careful around folks with crossbows…

The door guard disappeared…

My wife decided to sort through the 20 years of electronic cables we have.

I waited for that to move the last of the big furniture around.

At the end of the day, all was well. Everyone was tired, but now there is room for a bed in there.

One thing I’ll say is: we have a LOT of photos. Boxes and boxes of old photos.
You may think I do a lot of photos now. I did almost as many then and have tons of them around.
I really should sort them and scan them.
Maybe I’ll work on that…

Sorry to tire you out.
It did take us all day, so it was quite tiring for us as well.
We started about 9 in the morning and when I finished doing the laundry of all the clothes we found it was about 10:30 at night. So, a long day of cleaning...

Why do you have a Dalek?!

And wow, I can't imagine the developing costs of all that film...O_O

I've been a Doctor Who fan for about 40 years. So, when they started selling inflatable Dalek toys a few years ago I bought one.
No reason other than I thought it was fun.

The Dalek should have helped clean. I'm quite sure he had a hand in messing things up.

Those shelves look badass. I don't think they'll break in a hurry!

[identity profile] brickhousewench.livejournal.com 2014-08-03 02:47 am (UTC)(link)
OMG, collapsing bookshelves would be like a nightmare for me! (Luckily my IKEA Billy bookshelves hold up quite well...)

[identity profile] fbhjr.livejournal.com 2014-08-03 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
It was pretty bad. I have no idea what caused them to break. Nothing should have been leaning on them from the back corner out...
