Last night I dreamt that Phoenix Swords had become some sort of salvage operation. I got the impression it was after some collapse of civilization, but nothing in the dream outright said that.
We were exploring a place that looked like our old practice area in Hoops except that it was full of old machinery. But, it had that look of several long thin rooms with small doors between them and no windows outside. I almost get the impression it was supposed to be underground, but again, no direct confirmation.
We came in through a door in the far wall, and split in two different directions. I went to the right with Perrin, most of the others went to the left.
As the other group talked amongst itself I realized I fully knew the dialog before it was said. And, I realized that they were soon going to find a Terminator buried under the scrap metal at the far end of the room. Terminators hadn’t been invented yet, so they wouldn’t know what it was. They’d think it was some strange sort of robot and try and turn it on. It would then kill us, get loose and do all sorts of damage before it could be stopped.
I realized I knew this because my future self had been projected back into my body at that time so that I would be able to try and stop it from happening.
“Tom’s about to find it,” I said out loud.
“It will take him a couple of minutes to turn it on,” Perrin said. I realized I wasn’t the only one sent back.
“We’ve got to find something to stop it,” I said, looking around. We had been salvaging metal or useful items we found. Nothing seemed strong enough to use on a Terminator.
“Don’t grab anything electrical,” Perrin said. “That will give it a power source and make it stronger. When it first turns on its batteries will be almost dead and that gives us a chance.”
“Right,” I agreed, thinking that its armor didn’t need batteries.
I did find some carpentry equipment including power saws and such. But, keeping in mind the power, I didn’t pick them up.
Finally I found a big metal tube with a weight on the end. It was much like a sledgehammer and I got ready to use it as such.
“Look at this funky old robot,” I heard Tom say from the far end of the room and I knew our time was up.
Perrin and I looked at each other and started heading down to where Tom was.
“I bet I could get this turned on,” Tom said.
I saw the metal skull of the Terminator sticking out from under some wreckage. Tom was fiddling behind its head and I saw the red lights of its eyes start to glow.
“Cool,” Tom said, looking down at it. It started to move the wreckage so it could get out.
I swung my pole at it’s head. It was knocked to the side some, then turned to face me. I jammed the but end of my pole into a gap in it’s chest armor and levered it’s arm back over it’s head trying to pin it in place.
I realized Perrin and I were the only ones sent back because we had been the only ones who had lived through the original finding of this. And, by charging at it now, that might change. I wondered if we would be able to try again if we failed. I wondered if we had tried and failed before, and if so how many times. Or, if we failed, would the future we were being sent back from disappear and this would be the only chance we’d get.
I put all my weight into pining it’s one free arm to hold it in place while Perrin tried to kill it.
It’s red eyes stared into mine.
Dream ends

I used to have a lot more of these dreams.
I tend to get them when I feel like I’m fighting a very difficult or impossible battle. And, I can’t deny that’s how I’ve felt this last week or so.
I guess the good news is that in the dream I wasn’t loosing. Usually in the dreams I’ve got to run away from the Terminators as I can’t beat them. This time it was trapped and low power.
Hopefully that means I’ve got a chance to overcome them before my problems gain power.
