How much is that phaser in the window?

When I was at the comic book store during the street festival Sunday I saw they had a toy phaser in their display case near the entrance.
I’ve always been very fond of Star Trek toys, going back to when the original show was on. One of my first attempts at my own creative things was trying to make my own Star Trek episode when I was in 4th grade. We had toy phasers then too.
(It did not come out well as the camera man, my father, was not on board with my artistic vision. My 10th grade Star Wars rip off went much better, but that’s another story…)
Anyhow, I had to ask for them to get it out of the case. It was only 10% of what new ones go for on eBay, but it was out of the box and all too.
But, I still decided to buy it.
"I’ve been looking at that in the case," the kid behind the register said to me.
"If you want it, I’ll yield to your buying it," I said.
"No, it was not to be. Maybe you know which version it is? We’ve been discussing it."
(Yeah, they shouldn’t have asked that…)
"Well, it’s the model that was used both in the Motion Picture and Wrath of Khan, but it wasn’t seen on screen in The Motion Picture as the scenes it was in were cut. But, you can still see it on some of the guards in the background.
"It was more more prominent in Wrath of Khan being on screen several times.
"This particular toy was sold as part of The Motion Picture stuff when it came out. A different version was released later, but it didn’t have the removable phaser 1 part, which is really what makes this version rare."
I could have gone on more, but they were busy…
Yeah.
It’s a thing for me.
