Year in photos

I’ve gone through 2017 and picked 2 photos for each month. That was a bit hard as some months there were a lot of things to choose from. But, it’s limit it or show them all…
January started with us in Australia and New Zealand.

That was a great way to start the year. And, I can’t deny, I wish we had done something similar this year. If only we weren’t sick and had piles of extra money. Ah well. Some other time.
February was our godson’s birthday. His wish was to come visit and go sledding on the snow.

Late in February I fell while visiting a customer and really, really hurt myself. It took months for me to heal.
And, it meant I couldn’t sword fight for our biggest show of the year.

That show did still go well at the start of March.

By the end of March I still couldn’t do sword fights, but at least I could teach classes on them when we did a science fiction convention at Smith College.

By April I was able to hold our lightest swords again. I still couldn’t fight with them, but it was a start.

My wife’s car also basically fell apart in April. So, for the first time in more than 20 years, we went shopping for a new car for her.

In May we found out that our annual show at the University of Massachusetts was going to continue, even though the professor who had started it had retired. That was happy news as we really like that show.

I also went to an off site engineering meeting for work on Cape Cod that was mostly nice.

It is very rare for me to get to go on such trips.
The only downside was that the "team building" exercise was a pub crawl that happened to fall on the 31st anniversary of my giving up alcohol.
In June some of our friends from Kentucky came to visit. We roamed all over the place and had a really good time.

By the end of June when we were doing our shows in New Jersey, I was finally able to sword fight on stage again.

This left me in good shape to do the really small show we did in July.

Also in July my wife and I went to New York City and saw some science fiction art that kicked off a lot of that field.

In August we took a nice trip out to the west coast where we saw some of our friends we hadn’t seen in a while.

The sun also went out, which was REALLY COOL!

In September I made a work trip to Atlanta and lost my camera at the airport. So, all photos from here on are on a different camera.

We did go to a nice street festival in Worcester.

In October we did a couple of fire shows.

And, got to walk across a dam we’ve drive past for decades.

In November we had another friend visit with us, which was very nice. (They took the photo.)

Then, off to Alabama for our annual show there.

This month has been pretty cold. But, we still saw cool exhibits with our friends.

And, got to see our family in Florida.

Overall, this wasn’t a good year for me.
Work did not go well.
I got really, really hurt over the winter.
I spent a fair bit of the year depressed.
But, it started great. We had lots of great visits with friends from all over.
And, this is far from the worst year I’ve had.
Hopefully 2018 will be better for all.
