The way this works is folks who comment will be given a number and you have
to answer these questions about when you were that age and then where you
are now.
[livejournal.com profile] tatjna gave me 32.

I lived: In the same apartment I do now about 40 miles west of Boston in
the USA. We were fairly new to the apartment then having moved there when
we got married 2 years before. My wife worked nights at the time and we
agreed that if you go to work in the middle of the night, you should have
the shorter commute. So it was only about 2 miles/3km from where she
worked.

I drove: I had a Saturn SL1. I was very happy with that car.

I was in a relationship with: My wife. As we got married a month before I
turned 30, at 32 we were still fairly new in our marriage. But, we had
been together 10 years before we got married, so not new to each other.

I feared: Failing. (See work below.)

I worked at: Recreational Vehicle Products, Faulkner Awning Division. I
had started there a month before I turned 32 and was in competition to be
the chief engineer of the division. My boss was very unhappy with the
current engineer and hired me to improve things. On my first day he sat us
down together and said “I only need one engineer. At the end of six months
the one of you who has designed the most product for me will become the
chief engineer for this division, the other will be let go. You have six
months to prove you’re worth keeping. Go.”
At the end of six months (while I was still 32) I had designed 2 product
lines totaling about 700 components.
He designed a handle made up of 6 parts. It was a very nice handle.
I became chief engineer and he was let go.
(Now I’m the age he was then. This worries me more than it used to.)

I wanted to be: Happy

Now, age 51.88:

I live: In the same apartment. Maybe some day we’ll move. But, we just
renewed the lease for another year.

I drive: A Toyota PriusC. It is the car I am most happy with since that
Saturn SL1.

I am in a relationship with: My wife.

I fear: Lots more than I did. But, I guess most of that still revolves
around failure and different flavors of it.

I work at: Well, I don’t like saying the name of my current company where
search engines might come to here looking for it. It is an automation
company that makes various types of robots. I am the mechanical
engineering manager for a department in the life science division. My
department works on robots that store medical samples at -190C and can
automatically load and unload the samples from the cold.
Good work. Good folks. Crazy company.

I want to be: Still working on that happy thing.
