I’m surprised I can’t stick my sword there…
Last night I was working on the plane tickets to Wales for the class on
making a bronze sword in April.
I got all of the way to the purchasing point and was about to click “buy”
when it popped up with a message block saying “please confirm you have read
our new hazardous material prohibitions”.
So, I clicked on the file and there it was:
“Axes, swords & knifes not allowed in carry on OR checked in luggage.”
When did that happen?
I’ve flown with my swords plenty of times, granted, always in checked
luggage. We had one troupe member who went to great lengths to demonstrate
why you shouldn’t mess around with the inspectors at the airport. But, the
swords still got on the plane.
I’m going to have to figure this one out. The whole point is to get the
sword. I don’t want to make it and then not be able to have it.

My cousin's husband was on an archeological dig in Israel and brought home an old axe head. They were very clear it MUST go in check in luggage.
I've flown with sword domestically at least half a dozen times. I've seen them checked in with the hilt still hanging out of the bag. And, that was less than 6 months after 911.
So, it must just be this airline.
Maybe because folks have tried to steal objects and fly home with them.
That's as good of a reason as any I've heard.
