Welcome to late fall in New England

It is 28F/-2C outside right now. I woke up to find everything in my apartment complex coated in ice and zero done with sand or salt about it.

The entire time I got ready for work a car was trying to get up the hill out of our apartment complex. When I walked out he had made it maybe 1 car length.
I watched another car slide down the same hill sideways with no control at all on the ice.

I came back upstairs and emailed my boss I’d be late as I physically can’t get out of my parking lot this morning.

It is supposed to get up to 42F/+5C with heavy rain and possible flooding by noon.
But, the ice will melt…

Winter officially starts in 9 1/2 days.

It's just as cold in New Scotland Nova Scotia, too. I woke up yesterday and it was -7, and it's apparently been hitting -11 at nights! Luckily, it's just -0.5 right now...

Drive safely! There was a bad truck accident on the big highway near where we live on Saturday, and we watched two cars slide off the road before we hit the proper highway, too. My brother and law and I also had to roll into a snow bank, because a big truck was covering the road out of nowhere and his brakes wouldn't kick in fast enough.

I too have had big truck problems with momentum. Once I ran a red light as I knew the bus behind me wasn't going to stop in time. It was the correct decision as it stopped halfway through the intersection...

I am so sorry. Our weatherman always goes on about it being meteorological winter on December first, so *shrug*. I hope your car is not in any danger from the slip and slide.

This morning is grey and wet and 37F just like every morning last week. /sarcastic yay.

Blllaaaaaaaah.

Yeah Musesrealm got a call from her school at 5AM with a 2 hour delay, then an hour later canceling school.

We could hear a couple of cars squealing and sliding outside. We live on a very steep hill, so, not at all interested in going anywhere until
it warms up. I have to bring my car in today for part 2 of Find the Oil Leak. Ugh.

This might warm you up slightly...if you look at it during the day anyway...

(sorry for the ice issues as well, winter is one of the main reasons I no longer live in the East coast...now my blood is so thin I freeze at 55!)

Sounds ... errr ... interesting.
So - did you get to work in the end?

[identity profile] fbhjr.livejournal.com 2014-12-09 05:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Eventually the sand truck came through and coated the roads. So, I got to work a few hours late, but had been doing work at home, so it all works out.

[identity profile] fbhjr.livejournal.com 2014-12-09 07:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh no, not yet.
The days of -15 to -20C are coming...

If it's any consolation, it's 10C here and hosing down, and summer officially started 10 days ago.

It's going to be a cold one. I'd better get a hat for my bald head...

BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

Sheesh, that sounds really dangerous. Good call waiting to go into work!

I'm so happy you are not driving in that today! That sounds dangerous and frankly too damn cold to leave the house.

I've been awake too long or need my eyes checked (or both). I read the above as "I woke up to find everything in my apartment coated in ice" I further read "heavy rain and possibly flooding in my room"

You need to find a new place to live!
