Stuff & Things

Yesterday my wife wanted to go to the free mead tasting event at the liquor store a couple of towns over.

I agreed to be my wife’s designated driver, and she agreed to take me to lunch at the Chinese restaurant next to the liquor store.
It was a big day there, being New Years. It was decorated, had extra food items available and was very crowded.
They aren’t doing the dragon for two weeks, and I’ll be busy that day.
Ah well.

Having given up drinking for cause 28 years ago, I don’t normally go into liquor stores. (OK, OK, 27 years, 8 months, 17 days.)
But, I didn’t want to sit in the car in winter. Last year they had the whole basement open and I could sit and read my iPad while others drank the free mead.

This year they only had half the basement open, and no chairs. Sad.

It was also very crowded, but I think it had more to do with free alcohol than the year of the horse.

This morning I made waffles for breakfast and suffered a horrible brain malfunction that had dire results.
The directions said “three cups of water”. So, I pulled out my measuring cup, filled it three times and put it into the mix.
It was a 2 cup measuring cup. (For folks not using cups, I put in 1500ml of water instead of 750 as it was a 500ml cup not a 250 as I thought.)

So, I had twice as much water in the mix as needed.
This made for very steamy waffles.

And, somewhere in there the Borg snuck in and assimilated half my waffle.

But, I slapped it on a plate and ate it anyhow.

I have never seen a waffle come out like that before. i worked at the waffle house, so I have seen a lot of waffles.

Waffle House?
Oh, the stories you must have! The things you must have seen!

I'll bet it was crunchy on that one side! :)

The mix was too thin, so when I flipped the waffle maker over, only the parts that had started to cook stayed. The rest flowed over to the other side.

Ha! I bet the Borg waffle still tasted good.

I saw the best license plate the other day. On a VW Beetle: BORG POD

That waffle iron looks very professional ... we don't have a waffle iron - not a super popular thing here although you can buy them.

My wife's aunt recommended it, and it has been very good.
But, there is only one waffle mix we like. That can be harder as it isn't always in stock.

Chang du for the restaurant?

[identity profile] fbhjr.livejournal.com 2014-02-09 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
The Mandarin that shares the parking lot with Julios.

Ah, OK- we haven't tried that one yet. What do you think of it? -though we can pick your brain tomorrow!

Cheng Du has greater peaks, but is less consistent.
The Mandarin is pretty steady and has some good solid stuff.
We usually go there for the buffet as it is very good.

As for tomorrow, what time?
We'll be at sword practice until 4 and then it will take a while to drive back from CT...

Ooo! We'll have to try the Mandarin.

As for tomorrow, I'm aiming dinner at 6:15 or so. You can either come straight here from CT, or have a break at home. We haven't really planned appetizers, but I'm sure we can put something together! or just have dinner earlier- one plus of this is that it is not time-dependent.
