you’re supposed to do one question a day, but I’m going to do it in groups
because that’s the way I am.
1) Are you an optimist, a pessimist or a realist and is this something you
would like to change?
2) Do you write letters or emails for fun?
3) What is essential for your happiness and what could you live without?
4) If you could relive one day in your life, which one would it be?
5) Are you good at setting boundaries?
6) What do you want your life to be like at age 75?
7) Would you wish your childhood on others?
8) What are you skeptical about?
9) Which musical instrument would you like to be able to play?
10) Do you forgive and forget?
11) Would you consult a psychic?
12) What is your idea of heaven?
13) What is it hard for you to understand?
14) What do you think is the meaning of life?
15) What are you curious about?
1) Are you an optimist, a pessimist or a realist and is this something you
would like to change?
I would say that I am an optimist, but not an unqualified one.
I generally think things will go well, but realize it will take a lot of
work to make that happen. If you have a plan, work hard and make sure
things stay on track, then things will generally go well.
Risk analysis is a big part of what I do for a living. Will parts work?
Will they be done on time? Will the design meet the requirements?
A lot of analysis goes into answering those questions.
But, optimism too.
If you don’t think you can do something new, you will be right.
So, you’ve got to have the optimism to start, and then the realism to make
sure it really happens.
Even pessimism has its place as you need to be able to plan for what could
go wrong and can’t go around thinking everything will work right the first
time without problem.
So, I’d say I was a qualified optimist, and don’t want to change.
2) Do you write letters or emails for fun?
No.
OK, OK, I’ll explain more.
If I’m writing an email or a letter, it is because I have something to
communicate to another person.
The contents of that communication could be something fun. And
communicating with people can certainly be fun.
I also do plenty of writing for fun. A lot of which is in this journal.
But, letters and emails have jobs to do. Send whatever message I’m trying
to send.
3) What is essential for your happiness and what could you live without?
I certainly have a great deal of difficultly being happy without my wife’s
love. So, I’d say that is essential.
It is also difficult for me when I don’t have some sort of creative outlet.
What could I live without?
When it comes down to it, a lot. But, if the question is what would you be
willing to live without, then it is a much shorter list.
There are plenty of things I want, but don’t need.
Cable television, high speed internet, a stack of things to read, video
games, etc.
Can I live without those?
Sure.
But, I don’t want to.
4) If you could relive one day in your life, which one would it be?
I don’t know. That’s a good question. There is no one day that really
stands out for me that way.
I would have to say that October 2nd, 1993 was probably my best single day.
(The day my wife and I got married.)
But, I was very busy and didn’t really appreciate it as it sped by.
If I could go back and appreciate it more, then maybe that would be a good
day to relive.
Even reliving it as it was wouldn’t be bad.
If I could have a bit more time I might want some of 1983 back. That
summer was the best.
The six weeks starting July 16th would like to relive.
5) Are you good at setting boundaries?
Sure.
I’m going to stop here and do the other questions later.
