That’s just stupid
Today I got something from Amex to use my points to see Cirque du Soleil in
Worcester next week.
Given the ratio of points to dollar equivalent, they were offering 2
tickets for what would be about $130.
So, I said to myself “I wonder if that’s a good price?”
I clicked over to the Centrum web site and followed their ticket link.
(Hey, it was the Centrum when it was built and I started going there. I
don’t care what corporation paid to plaster their name over it since then.)
Tickets in the same section were about $180. So, good deal. But, then I
looked at that deal. It was $180 plus $20 per ticket in handling and $15
in shipping them.
$15 to ship them the 5 miles to my house? On top of $20 each to “process”
them?
That’s just stupid.
Then, I checked Ticketmaster as they were the partners for this Amex
program.
$135.96 total. OK, that lines up pretty well with the point conversion.
So, I got them with points.
But, I am totally amazed that this other ticket place would charge $100 for
tickets in the same section.
Same show, same night, same seating section, $50 more a ticket.
I was going to use my Amex points unless they were horribly marked up. I’m
surprised to see they are the bargain.

The reason it was through Ticketmaster was the reasn i checked. I was afraid I was going to be getting $35 tickets for the equivelent point cost of $150 or somthing.
But, they're online price was right where the points said it should be. The other guys were horribly highter.
