Sculpture park

Today my wife and I went over to the deCordova museum a little less than an hour from here.
http://www.decordova.org

It is a nice museum with a large yard that last lots of outdoor sculptures.

It is built around a hill, so there is some up and down walking around the grounds.

They’ve got some things that you just kind of discover walking along.

I like this one as you are encouraged to play with it and make sound. I’d say music, but that is optimistic.

A lot of the outdoor ones are fairly large.

I don’t think this red squirrel was part of the exhibit. But, it is mostly grey squirrels in the area, so who knows?

I thought this one a bit strange.

It’s newspaper piled up in the woods.

35 years ago that was how my brother and I made the backstop for our archery range in the woods behind my parent’s house.
I didn’t know we were doing art…

My wife and I spent a lot of time talking about this one.

The similarity to Disney characters. The title where there are two main pieces one of which has a smaller, similar head on top of their own.
The only thing I don’t like about the museum is it doesn’t really tell the artist’s intention in the piece. Even in the extra information.

As always I take photos of benches at museums. Trust me, there’s one in there.

This is the new exhibit they’re promoting on their website. Don’t really see the big deal about it.

We also noticed that at the end of the fall there seem to be less exhibits outside.
There had been a big installation in this clearing. Not any more.

I think this is a memorial to Groot.

This one was interesting.

I’m not sure if you’re supposed to look through the holes or not, but I did.

Some people don’t seem to pay attention to signs. At least I don’t see where it says "except for picnics".

It is a nice view. I can’t blame them.

Look! More benches!

It was a nice day to be at the museum. 60F/16C with lots of sun.

We did take off home before sunset. It was a nice sunset too.

I'd bet they were all Ingress portals and you missed hacking them.

Probably true...

"Please do not touch or climb on this sculpture."

Spoilsports.

A number of people brought their kids and said little other than "Don't climb on that!" to them.

It is too bad they don't make a climbing section.

Burn events have spoiled me for any art that is not interactive.

I agree that interactive is superior.
But, few sculptures are made that way.

What a cool place - that's definitely a place I'd like to walk around

I'll put it on the list for when you visit...

LOLLLLLL you're funny taking pics of benches. :o)
What makes you do that?

aaaaaaaaaawww Groot is awesome!!!

My cousin once joked that I go through museums so fast that I spend more time sitting on the bench at the end then I do looking at the exhibits.

I do go through them very fast. Just the way I do things.

That is a pretty cool park. We went there years ago and it looks like all of the sculptures have changed since then so now I want to back again.

[identity profile] fbhjr.livejournal.com 2014-11-24 01:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Based on our going, I'd say they do a big change once or twice a year.
But, it may be that they take things in and out for the winter and summer too.

Great pics! I find it so cool you and your wife take so much time to explore things together! It's inspiring!
