Week in photos

Spring is supposed to start here next week. But, winter isn’t giving up yet.

The turkeys seems to have changed behavior. They seem to be trying to burrow into the ground.

I think they may be nesting.

Once they’ve burrowed for a while they came out to the snow.

Then, they shook the dirt from their feathers and made a dirty turkey on the snow.

I think I should go look for eggs.

They still like rice cakes.

The one that actually captures it does the best.

And the next day they were back knocking on the door asking for more.

When the sun is how they seem very shiny.

We did have some nice sunrises this week.

There was supposed to be a big storm Wednesday night/Thursday morning. But, it Thursday morning there wasn’t that much.

There was still snow coming down, it just didn’t stick.

And, Friday was a nice day.

But, it melted the ice on my car causing icicles to form under the car.

Turkeys still think they are velociraptors. It can be hard to convince them they are not...

We've had fog and murk here, but no snow at all so far this winter. BST in two weeks, so the chances are getting smaller and smaller.

That said, I have been snowed on whilst the Grand National was on.

Mid-May is the latest I've actually seen snow fall here where I live.
But, in the mountains about 100km from here they get frost even in the summer.

So weird to see snow as we've been having temps of up to 20° here ... that's about 68°F ...

Yeah, it was 15C here yesterday.
It keeps going from about +15 to -15 about once a week.
Hopefully it will keep on the + side soon...

Turkeys taking dust baths!

They don't usually do that sort of thing at this time of year - usually in the summer. They will roll and get dust in their feathers and then shake it out to try to dislodge loose feathers and things like mites or fleas.

Nesting/mating and egg laying season won't start until the end of April/early May, so you won't find any eggs at this time of the year.

We're also looking forward to to arrival of spring -- it sure doesn't feel like it is going to get here on time, tho!
