Say what now?

This afternoon I got an email from a headhunter:
“I hear you are looking for a job and know of a position for a mechanical
engineering at an ‘award winning furniture company in Hudson’ if you are
interested.”
I wrote back:
“AIS where I worked for 6 years before they laid me off in the big
recession 5 years ago?”
“Oh, yeah. That’s probably not a good idea, is it?”
“If they wanted me back, they know where to ask, and haven’t.”
As I talk about my work as the project manager for two different product
lines a lot on my resume, I’m pretty sure this headhunter didn’t look past
my email before sending me this job.

Then, I got a very strange call on my cellphone. I don’t normally get
calls during the day. And, if they do, they’re usually for the sword
troupe.
“Hello?” I said when it rang.
“Did you just call dirty girl?” a woman asked.
“What?”
“I’m returning the call to dirty girl you made.”
“What?”
“Dirty Girl Waste Disposal?” the person said. “Didn’t you just call us?”
“No. This is my cellphone and it’s been on my desk all day. So, I’m
pretty sure no one used it to call you.”
“Sorry to have bothered you,” she said and hung up.
I checked it out on line. It is apparently and all female waste disposal
company one town over from where I work.
OK, if I need a waste disposal company, I’d be happy to call them.
But, I hadn’t called them today.

Maybe it’s just me, but these things seemed strange to me.

Sounds like the same great company to work for as it was then!

The award in question was give in 2003. It has not been given to the again...

The Mind boggles.

That is weird.

Don't you love how seriously they take things? A good headhunter would pay more attention. Maybe it's time to find a new one.

This isn't one I normally work with. They just contacted me out of the blue...

Weird. I love the name of the removal company, though...

Dirty Girl runs ads on the radio station I listen to. I love the idea! But yea, random phone calls like that might make my eyebrows shoot up!

I looked at their website and it seems like a good company. But, the way I got the call was weird.

Oh, and if it makes you feel any sense any better, I got a random recruiter pinging me on LinkedIn today. Asking me if I wanted to leave my full time job for a 6 month contract? Where I'd have to commute through Boston to get to Quincy?

*headdesk*

Weird stuff is happening!!!

I don't understand why headhunters would not read your resume first...?

[identity profile] fbhjr.livejournal.com 2014-01-11 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
I agree it is strange.
Especially as it is the job I was working at up until 5 years ago, so still listed high on my resume...

I wasn't thinking about waste disposal when I read dirty girl..

Yeah, when I was asked if I had called a dirty girl, I hadn't thought waste disposal either...
