A day at the faire
Today we spent at the Kentucky Renaissance Festival .
It is the third year we have spent a day at it over the 4th of July weekend, and it is a nice tradition I'm happy to keep going.
This year we were not performing, so my wife and I felt no problems with going in comfortable clothing.

That styling hat is the one I bought yesterday at the caves. Any jokes about my taste being underground should be inserted here.

But, funny hat or not, I didn't have to spend a hot summer day in a dragon costume.

They have a fairly large cast this year and they all sang to us.

Lots of folks came through there.

Including one guy who was saying "in only 476 years you will be free".

In addition to the whole ren faire thing going on, they also had a bunch of highland games going on.

We watched some of the bags of hay tossing as well as the caber tossing.
There were times my wife felt the need to get away from the crowd.

Especially with

There was a "girly, girl shopping trip". While I do not qualify as a girly girl, I do enjoy their company, so was allowed to accompany them while they bought corsets.

It was nice to see that even the stuffed animals got to enjoy the day having their own special picnic.

Even if we weren't working the faire, our friends there were. So, we often only caught people like

I did get caught up in

Sadly I lost a thumb wrestling contest to this young woman.

She did of course have a thumb wrestling stand in take her place.

Any of you who think, as a certain captain has suggested, that I threw the contest to get out of the hot sun should know me better then that. (You only "think" it?)
We saw Jack Salt's show.

It was very good. He knows some chanties I don't. Since I've been listening to them since grade school that is fairly rare. But, he knows some river shipping ones that apparently didn't make it back east. I bought his CDs.
We went to the joust. They're very good with horses and extremely acrobatic. But, I'm not sure it is a joust.

We rarely spend a whole day at a faire we are not working, so it was nice to get the time to decide what acts we wanted to see.

Watching

I would NEVER try that with the birds I used to work with at the museum. But, this one was very well tempered and spent a lot of time on her shoulder.
Drunk and Sailor has added an "adult" show to their repertoire. This apparently involves puppets playing drums.

But, they played so hard

They did have two women, from two other different acts, come into their act to do fire tricks. One trick they tried was to transfer flame from one of their tongues to the other, then back to a torch.

The two women had never worked together before and the trick is not easy. They tried, and tried and tried, but could not get it to work.

Sadly, it never did.
For reasons not totally clear to me, this induced

It was a fairly funny song, but not everyone seemed taken with it.

They did get a fair amount of tips. Some dropped them down the captain's pants. Others made them get them for themselves.

Both the captain and moose seemed OK with it at the end of the show.

But, as much fun as it was, the day came to a close.

We headed off to have a nice dinner where the captain told us a story of how children requested he torture Mythfish.

Then it was time for more moose.

The guy who sold us the two falchions last year recognized me, even if regular clothes, and gave me a discount on more stuff for directing him to his booth last year.
He said he'd love to see us come back and sword fight some more. I told him to go talk to the faire organizer and tell him that.
We'll see if anything comes of that.
It was a very good time and I'm glad we came back. Almost everyone we know in KY was there today and it was nice to get to visit with them.
It has been a really fun trip, but tomorrow we head for home. Nice as it is out here, back at home are the jobs that pay for these trips.
But, we still have had a really good time.

I hope your wife enjoys her Felix corset. Felix is a very good maker of things which bind.
