Weight of scars
At my doctor’s prodding, I’ve been trying to lose some weight this year.
In the spring I lost about 22 kilos. I was happy, the doctor was happy.
But, she did ask me for more.
When I got back from Iceland, I had lost another 8.
Lifting 20 kilo blocks of turf for three days with no between meal snacks can do that.
One of the things I noticed was that the scar on the back of my head that I got from that amusement part ride back in 1972 seemed much more prominent.
It seemed to stick up much more, almost catching on my brush when I brushed my hair in the morning. And, it felt much taller than normal when I probed it with my fingers.
Now, I have not been as good about my diet the last few weeks and am back to the level I was before Iceland. But, the scar has diminished as well and now is hardly noticeable when I rub my head.
I do not think of there being a lot of fat on the surface of my head between my skull and my hair. (I think of it being concentrated over my stomach…)
But, the conclusion seems to be that there is a lot on my head and when I am a bit heavier there is more fat on my head that covers up that scar.
This is strange to me. I think of that scar from 52 years ago as fairly static. I don’t think of it changing. And, to have to suddenly catching my hair brush after all this time was very weird to me.
I need to work on getting more weight off again.
But, this is a side effect I had not expected. And, I don’t like it.
