Continued eye issues

I met with the eye doctor that deals with cataracts at the eye doctors I go to this morning.
She agreed with my normal doctor that the left eye is bad enough to get operated on.

They make you fill out a form about the types of replacement lenses you can get. Only the fixed ones are covered by most insurance and the form has two choices “talk with me about options” or “never mention anything not covered by insurance”.

I thought that a bit strange as it wasn’t a commitment to lenses not covered by insurance, it was just if they’re allowed to discuss them with you.
I picked “go ahead and talk”, because why not hear the options?

The variable ones are $4,000 per eye and my insurance does not cover that.
But, after talking about them with the doctor, she did not recommend them for me.
This is the same eye that’s had the nerve damage and she says she does not recommend the variable ones for eyes that have other issues going on.
So, fixed lens is the plan.

The first open date on the schedule is February 7th, which would have been my sister’s 76th birthday.
I was told I have to get a physical first to make sure I can have the surgery.

My annual physical is scheduled for February 5th, two days before. Hopefully it is not delayed.

I did speak with her about my sword fighting in case that made a difference to anything.
Her only question/comment about that was “Do you do birthday parties?”
There were photos of two boys on her wall. Maybe we’ll make a sale too…

I am a bit sad it’s 5 months until this is dealt with. But, the waiting time for last month’s colonoscopy was 10 months, so I guess I can’t complain.

Okay, I remember why it's 5 months now. Insurances no longer reimburse the surgeon for the cost of the surgery. It costs surgeon say $100 to do the surgery (suite use, surgical tech etc), but insurances only pay $75. So they do much fewer cataracts on the schedule as opposed to other surgeries to balance the books.
