Christmas Covid, the sequel

Two years ago at this time of the year I had Covid. It was, by far, the sickest I’ve ever been. Even worse than that time with food poisoning in Shanghai in 2005.

I’ve had a bit of a cough this week. I took a Covid test Monday and it was negative.

Yesterday my runny nose was so bad I used an entire box of tissues during my work day.
But, I didn’t have a temperature.
I could still smell and taste things.
While I was coughing, it was not a dry cough.
So, I thought it was just a cold that would hopefully pass in a day or two, before we left for Florida on Wednesday.

Last night I took another Covid test to be sure.
It came back with such a strong positive line it was like it slapped me with it.

My cousin’s husband is 80.
His daughter, my cousin Christine, is in a wheel chair and doesn’t have the best immune system.
Not to mention 24 hour drive each direction when sick isn’t any fun.

So, I cancelled the whole trip.

We’ll miss Christine’s birthday.
We’ll miss scattering her mother’s ashes.
We’ll miss cooking Christmas dinner for them all.
We’ll miss us being with family the first Christmas after my sister died.
We’ll miss visiting with our Godkids on the way back north.

I don’t have words for how sad this makes me.
But, I don’t want my family to get sick. There are few of us left as it is.

I’m hoping I won’t get anywhere near as sick as before. In case I do, I don’t want to be 1000 miles from home with only a difficult drive as a way home.

I am still disappointed by all this far more than I can express…

I'm so sorry, this is just the worst time of year to be sick, because there's so much going on. You're not the only friend I have who has Covid either, a couple of my reenactor friends just came down with it too. =(

Oh, no! It never rains but pours! I do hope you have weathered this without too much distress. In case you find your recovery unsatisfactory, please complain. No-one should have to figure out how to deal with post-viral fatigue on their own!
