Strange dream

I dreamed my wife and I were on some sort of big trip that was coming to an end. We were in a hotel at an airport, packing our things to go and get on the plane home.

We had a tremendous amount of things. It is very rare for my wife and I to need more than one suitcase. Even on long trips or places we expect to need a lot of space, it is usually one suit case each.
But, this was multiple suitcases each, several packing crates, and all sorts of bubble wrap and Styrofoam to go with it.
There also seemed to be other folks there helping with the packing.
There was a lot of “this doesn’t go there, it goes in here” and such getting everything packed.

In the end, everything that was going to go in crates was going to be brought over by the hotel, and my wife and I left with our pile of suitcases.
We got on the shuttle bus to take us to our terminal and only a few minutes later, were pulling up.

“Wait,”, my wife said. “We’re 6 hours early for the flight.”
“We’ve got a lot of stuff to check in,” I said.
“But, it won’t take 6 hours. Let’s go back to the hotel for a bit and get some more rest.”
I agreed, but turned to see our suitcases were already unloaded and waiting on the sidewalk. As I got up, the bus door closed and we started back to the hotel.
“You left our suitcases behind,” I told the driver.
“Can’t stop now, we’d block the airport entrance,” he told me.

I could still see the bags on the sidewalk from our hotel as we got back off.
“I’ll walk over and grab them,” I told my wife.

The walking path to the terminal went through a big shopping area that was set up with fake trees and such to make it look like a jungle.

As I entered that area, I saw someone I knew. Tommy is someone who comes to our shows we do down south and have known for a long time. Although 15 years younger than me, his health is very bad and he’s had a number of strokes so has trouble getting around and even speaking at times.
But, in my dream, he was the Tommy from 15 years ago and seemed fine.
I said hi to him, but explained I couldn’t linger due to my luggage and we both moved on.

I waved as he walked off and coming the other way past him I saw my sister walking into the mall wearing a bathing suit.
As I write this, my sister is 72 years old and I haven’t seen her in 26 ½ years. In the dream she looked like she did in 1975, even to the point of being slightly taller than me, which has not been true since then. The only time I ever saw her in a bathing suit was at the beach, and certainly never at an airport.
Even in the dream I knew that wasn’t right and kept looking at her thinking that it must just be someone who looked a lot like my sister.

I started to say something and she cut me off.
“Don’t say it,” she said. “You’re just going to write me a letter with all the details anyhow. And, you’ll never even know if I read it. So, you don’t need to tell me any of it now.”
Dream ends

I know that some of that was because last night my wife and I were looking at some of the photos from our trip to Australia 3 ½ years ago. The airport was pretty close to the Melbourne airport, except that there isn’t a jungle themed shopping area there that I’m aware of.
And, when we flew home, we did get to that airport several hours early and had to wait for a while before we could even check in. But, that hadn’t been part of what we were looking at last night, so it’s still a bit strange.

Even in the dream I couldn’t help thinking “that’s now how she looks now”, even though I really have no idea how she looks now. But, I’m pretty sure at 72 she doesn’t look like she did when she was in her late 20’s. That’s not even how she looked the last time I saw her when she was in her 40’s.

She was right about the letter. The rules I have for contacting her (I can’t say they’re agreed upon as she has never replied) let me contact her for several reasons:
Major family event (Births, deaths, marriages)
Christmas
Her Birthday
Any time I leave the country
Any time I’m going to be within 100 miles of her

Other than that, I leave her alone. (I did send something a couple of months ago asking if she was OK in the plague. But, I didn’t hear back. After 26 years of not hearing from her, this was not a surprise.)

So, when we went to Australia, I did send her a letter. And, it did have a lot of details. (I just went and re-read it. It’s 8 pages long and has a bunch of photos as well…)

We did just start watching the TV show Stargirl. And, the superhero main character is based on the head writer’s sister, who died.
So, maybe that resonated with me more than I realized?
Don’t know.
