Mixed memories from yesterday

15 or so years ago a strange mark showed up on the side of my head.

I went to my doctor who looked at it and said "that doesn’t look good. I’m going to send you to a skin cancer specialist to look at it."

The doctor was at the Marlboro hospital where we were doing the fire show last night. I haven’t been back there since.

The specialist cut it off me there in his office and set it off to the lab to be tested. Although it was very small, I went back to work with my whole head bandaged. (A small bandaid could have covered it. But, I guess they felt the need to show my boss it was serious….)

When the tests were done, I had to go back there to get the results.
"It wasn’t cancer," he told me. "But, I see in your record that you are allergic to metal."
"That’s right," I said.
"Do you wear metal sun glasses?"

Yep. My sunglasses rubbed against the side of my head and caused an allergic reaction to happen there.

I’m very glad that is what it turned out to be.
It could have been much worse.

I hadn’t thought about that for a while. Driving there and seeing the hospital made me really remember those couple of weeks when I was left wondering if I had cancer.

Now, I wear plastic sunglasses…

wowwwww there you went, assuming you had cancer and it was just an allergy

Better that way than if I had thought it was an allergy and it was cancer...

oooooh yes!

A luck that all went well and nothing was serious ....

Your allergic to metal? Wow. That makes things weird for you I bet. Sorry an allergic reaction caused all that stress for you.

Nickel specifically.
But. it is in stainless steel, most jewelry and lots of other things.
So, not all metals.
But, enough to be annoying.

And, it takes a while for the allergy to show up. It has to be against my skin for a couple of hours.

Wow nickel, that's used in everything. ouch. Sorry. I'm allergic to gold, but that is easy to avoid.

That's funny, in the comic book my wife and I used to do the most powerful of the superpeople was allergic to gold and lost all of his powers near it...

Hmmm. That is neat. =) All I get is a red ugly rash. =D

Huh! Well I'm glad it was just that... and it makes for an interesting story.

Nothing like being scared to death for a couple of weeks! Glad it was just allergy.

When my son was little, we went through that--turned out to be cat scratch fever.

Yikes.

Glad it was an "easy" solution, and not cancer.

ah, a simple explanation!
