Mixed memories from yesterday

15 or so years ago a strange mark showed up on the side of my head.

I went to my doctor who looked at it and said "that doesn’t look good. I’m going to send you to a skin cancer specialist to look at it."

The doctor was at the Marlboro hospital where we were doing the fire show last night. I haven’t been back there since.

The specialist cut it off me there in his office and set it off to the lab to be tested. Although it was very small, I went back to work with my whole head bandaged. (A small bandaid could have covered it. But, I guess they felt the need to show my boss it was serious….)

When the tests were done, I had to go back there to get the results.
"It wasn’t cancer," he told me. "But, I see in your record that you are allergic to metal."
"That’s right," I said.
"Do you wear metal sun glasses?"

Yep. My sunglasses rubbed against the side of my head and caused an allergic reaction to happen there.

I’m very glad that is what it turned out to be.
It could have been much worse.

I hadn’t thought about that for a while. Driving there and seeing the hospital made me really remember those couple of weeks when I was left wondering if I had cancer.

Now, I wear plastic sunglasses…
