Going to Florida

Wednesday morning we got up at 4AM and headed into the airport. Despite being near the holiday, we got good parking as we were pretty early.

The plate was quite full.

But, we took off on time.

Soon we were coming down in Florida.

We drove up to [livejournal.com profile] mariness’s place and headed for lunch.

Then we headed off to a nature trail she wanted to see.

We did not walk all 29.2 miles (47km).

How far we did walk is not totally clear. There were markings on the path. I thought they were in miles. If so, we walked 2 1/2 miles each way. But, according to google we should have seen a cross road if we did. And, we didn’t. So maybe it was 2 1/2km each way? Hard to say as google has been wrong about things before. And, at best it wouldn’t be more than a dirt road.
Anyhow, it seemed a long way when it was 83F/28C and I was not used to that heat.

The vultures seemed to be watching me fairly intently…

Because it was warm there were butterflies out.

There was also a sign eating tree.

Our big worry was letting the sun go down. None of us wanted to go down the path through the swamp in the dark.

OK, it is on a raised, paved path through the swamp. But, still.

My wife wanted to hurry back to the car as someone was driving around it in some weird vehicle.

She double time marched us back to the car.
Made me wish I had packed water…

But, we went off to a place with things to drink and fancy deserts. That was nice.

You can see I’m much happier. Right?

Then, we went looking at the Christmas lights in Winter Garden.

They deck out their golf carts too.

For dinner I had a pizza with ham, pineapple, almonds, cinnamon, but no cheese.

The folks making it thought no cheese was strange…

After dinner we dropped off [livejournal.com profile] mariness and headed to our hotel.
As we were only there two nights and I had a LOT of points built up with hotels.com for the year, we got a nice room with a balcony and view of the pool.

Good view of the area.

you sure do cram a lot into your days
I loved going to Florida with you - thanks for sharing the photos

LOL @ the sign-eating tree. it's so -you- yo notice such things :o)
It looks awesome to walk there at the swamp.
Was there any special reason why you went to Florida? And it is a long flight for you?

My cousin's daughter's birthday is the 24th. (She's the one who brought us to the nature walk.)
So, we try and visit for her birthday. And, since a major holiday is the day after, it works out.

It's about a 3 hour flight from here. So, not too bad.

3 hours??? And you call that -not too bad-?? And you do such as a visit?? Oh my.. you Americans have such a different view on distances than we do

When the prices were high we considered driving it.
And, we've done that before.
That's about 18-20 hours each way depending on the traffic.
3 hours isn't bad at all...

3 hours of flight isn't all that bad .. but for a -visit- ? :o)

i hear in europe they visit other countries the way we visit other states.

i was on an 8 hour flight to hawaii. it was totally worth it. my dad did some work in japan and that was a 13 hour flight.

hah yes, we do. I live just 2 minutes away from The Netherlands (i'm from Belgium btw) so i often hop over the border. When I drive like 2 hours, I'm either way at the other and of my country (on the left, or at the bottom) -> I live upper right corner.
In 2 hours drive I'm in France, Luxembourg or Germany.. so we're quite often to find there.
But a flight, to us, is considered to be only taken for a real holiday. Greece is a 4 hours flight, Spain like 1.5.. Turkey like 5 and Egypt 6. But even though the one to Spain would only take up to 1.5 hour, we hardly don't do that as a -visit-. We just look at distances in a really different way over here because everything is small and closeby
This summer i went to Mexico and that was a 10 hours flight for me.

My wife likes the hotel for the very comfortable bed. I like that too, but the view is what I really like.

Pizza without cheese IS strange ... ;-)

[identity profile] fbhjr.livejournal.com 2015-12-28 03:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm allergic to milk, so strange but necessary...

I know ... but it's still ... strange.
I guess I would just have something else.
