Homing instinct part 2

Several years ago I wrote about being surprised to find that one of my
favorite places to play as a kid was where my father had a house a decade
or so before I was born.

I had a similar thing happen yesterday. One of my cousins who is very into
genealogy wrote to me with some questions about my branch of the family
tree. In return for answering them, he sent me the family trees of my
grandparents on my father’s side.
As I’ve talked about several times before, growing up I had almost no
contact with that side of my family. And, my father didn’t like talking
about his family or his youth. So, I have very few stories, history or
knowledge of that side of the family.

But, one of the things I noticed going through the trees was that some of
my family lived in Dartmouth Massachusetts 300 or so years ago. They moved
to New York about the time of US independence. Don’t know if it is
connected to that or not.
I had never known before I ever had family in that part of the state. I
thought my father’s family had all come through Connecticut. (And, this
says most of them did.)

A few weeks ago when we were driving through Dartmouth with the Godkids I
was feeling all nostalgic about that looking like it should and really
making me happy to see it.

The road I was on at the time share its name with the branch of the family
that until yesterday I didn’t know I had. There is at least some chance
that the name of the road and the name of that branch of the family are the
same for a reason.

There is a good chance that the place where I felt so nostalgic is a place
my family used to live.

Whoa that's pretty intriguing.

I seem to have a similar sort of thing with Connecticut. It has some odd family connections.
I don't want to say it's a love-hate relationship with CT, but it sort of it. That may be -my- particular take on it.

But whenever I'm in areas/towns where my family has been, I have that nostalgic like feel.
