Godkids visit, Day 4
This morning we waited for rush hour to end (not the movie) and headed into the city.

For the second time this week, we visited the Swiss bakery for breakfast.

Then off to Cambridge to visit their museums of Natural History and Native American Culture.

I normally have a good sense of direction. But, Cambridge is one of the few places it doesn’t work. I say because it is where my mother was born.
Add to that construction and a bunch of roads closed, and it was not an easy trip.

We tried Google maps on our phones, but it was not up to date with the road closures and got us more off course than my dead reckoning.
After we had spent an hour trying to get the 1.5 miles/2km from the bakery to the museum, our Goddaughter said "we don’t have to go to this museum if you don’t want to".
My wife and I gave what was described as evil laughs and both said "It’s too late to turn back now!"
We tried to take the subway, but two different stations had their parking 100% full. Three other parking garages had the same problem.
The garage at the museum was open and not full, but you had to print your own parking pass for it and bring it with you. I had not done this. The museum couldn’t print one for me as their printers only work on weekends. (No, that didn’t make sense to me either…)
So, I dropped my wife and the kids off and went looking for parking.
They looked at various interesting things.

I circled Harvard college twice.
But, then I found a parking space and walked across campus to the museum.

(Turns out there was some sort of parent/student orientation going on. So, I guess a lot of folks were in town for that.)
Finally I got there and our Godson brought me the ticket my wife had bought for me.

They were as excited to see me as they were to see this giant dinosaur. No, really.

They have a large mineral collection.
Our Godson wanted to see a diamond. So, he and I set off looking at all the rocks, reading the signs and talking about all of them.

A woman came up to us and said "Did I hear you say you wanted to see a diamond? They’re over in case #1!"
Our Godson made a bee line for the diamond.

"You know I was getting him to look in every case and read the tags, right?" I asked her. "I knew where it was and started on the other side on purpose."
"Oh, I’m so sorry!" She said. "I have kids and know how hard it is to get them interested in things!"
"I’m sure he appreciates it," I told her and joined him at the diamond.
We also went through the Native American exhibits in the attached museum.

The only both kids liked the best was the plains tribe’s headdress.

Our Godson wanted to have a photo that made him look like he was wearing it. That took some work. This is the best I could do.

Our Goddaughter had specifically asked to go to the Gyu-Kaku restaurant in Brookline, near there.

We pointed out there was plenty of other Japanese food in Cambridge.

But, for some reason sushi ice cream wasn’t what she wanted.
Of course, first I had to find my way back to the car. Tough when you’ve circled the place so many times.

But, we got to the car. Goggle suggested a path out of Cambridge that was outright insane. It would have involved zig-zagging across the whole town.
I got us out of there without too much trouble.

Finding the restaurant was harder. We did use Google for that even though it brought us through three U turns.
But, we got there.

It isn’t one of those places where they cook on the table for you. It is one where YOU cook on the table.

We got a meal package that included appetizers, side dishes and things to cook.

The cooking went well.

The dinner package came with smores for desert.

There was also ice cream that one person went after very quickly and got brain freeze.

Then, back out of the city.

We went through some VERY expensive parts of town.

The kids were happy and excited to see all these new places.

After we got back we went off to see the new Fantastic Four movie. The kids thought it was "too short" and should have had more of a build up to the big battle at the end.
I thought it was OK, but not really a Fantastic Four movie. Especially the end where it seemed like they were trying to make them the Avengers.
If they had just named it "adventures of the 4 science folks" instead I would have been much happier with it.

I also tend to always get lost whenever I'm in Dedham
I'm only marginally feeling "familiar" with Boston now, although South and East Boston as well
as Brookline gives me instant headaches.

And how was Fantastic Four? Most of the reviews I've seen said it was horrible.

As an SF movie, not so bad.

I love those Japanese BBQ places. The ones around here are expensive, but lots of fun.
