Traveling to Alabama and back

Last Wednesday started pretty foggy and rainy.


But, after work we headed out to deal with that and lots and lots of construction.


Despite that, we made good time to NYC.


The crossing the bridge was psychedelic…


The fog and rain continued through the night.


As did the construction.


3AM gas stops in Virginia make everyone happy.


But, back into the car and through "the nothing" we went.


The car does not get great gas milage with stuff on the roof. There were a lot of gas stops.


It was fall down south too.


Even in South Carolina.


The road goes ever on…


As always, the Peachoid.


I do better in the light. I’m told I’m solar powered.


I guess others use other fuel…


The Georgia boarder is nice.


Georgia has some strange looking mountains.


We did the work detour going down. My wife and I drove to the place while the others went to the aquarium.


We also visited the 1 mulberry tree in Canton Georgia from when they tried to start a silk business more than a century ago.


Then, back to Atlanta to pick up the others.


We stopped for the night and had to get our luggage out of the car.


The hotel was near an abandoned shopping mall. It seemed like a place for a zombie movie.


There was a big question of where to eat dinner in a ghost town.


The place we picked on Google wasn’t open, but we found another place.


The hotel was clearly made by Vulcans.


We were up and rolling again early Friday morning.


People were still smiling even after all those miles.


The whole fog and strange smell thing continued.


Route 29 photo bombed the "Welcome to Alabama" sign…


We stopped at Priester’s Pecans for a rest and refreshments.



I did wait a bit outside for folks.


Soon we were taking the turn down to the Gulf of Mexico.


It’s still a few hours from the coast.

That includes the 8 mile long bridge.



And, the smaller Mobile bridge.


Their road signs are not 100% clear to me…


But, the battle ships are clear enough.


The highway gets pretty close to the Gulf.



Folks were still OK in the back.


And, I was more or less OK still driving.

Monday morning we started by packing the empty bottles of Buddha Beer. We bought them for the bottles. I did not try the beer, but I’m told it was bad. So, it was poured out so the bottles could be kept.


Then out to pack the car before sunrise.


We managed to get on the road before the sun crossed the horizon.


It is strange to me that a city so close to the ocean level has tunnels, but Mobile does.


The sun came up about the time we reached the 8 mile long bridge.


Fog and bad smells. It was a theme.


Some people seemed to be having a trip of mud instead. Glad it wasn’t us.


Of course, back to visit things for work.

This time everyone had to wait for me to go in.


This was where we stopped for gas in South Carolina. I really liked the look of the place.


We continued north.


I did most, but not all of the driving.


Once more past the peachoid.


Just as we hit North Carolina, night arrived.


This is supposed to be a statue of Daniel Boone. Not sure why he’s in a NC gas station…


I did turn over the car in the nothing.


The moon was nice and stopped by for a visit.


NYC on the way home was full of traffic, even at 4AM.


My wife drove home the last leg of the trip.


It wasn’t until Wednesday night we stopped at storage and put everything away.


Everyone got home. Everything went well.
All in all, a good trip.
