5 Questions meme

[livejournal.com profile] 3a_berkeley was doing the 5 questions meme and these are the questions I was given.
If any of you want 5 questions to do yourself, let me know and I will try and think of some for you.
1)Do you have a favorite dessert? If so, please name/describe it.
My wife makes several very good deserts and I would be hard pressed to pick which is my over all favorite. It would probably be her apple pie. But, the raspberry treat she makes for me is also very, very good. (We have had the discussion that it might not count as a treat any more as she makes it for me almost every day. But, I still like it quite a bit.)

2) Where did you last vacation?
This is hard to answer because of the term vacation. The last time I used vacation time at work was last month and we watched our godchildren for a week. While I wasn’t at work, I’m not totally sure it counted as a vacation as I came out of it more tired than I went in. For that one we stayed in the greater Boston area and did a lot of things around here.
The trip I took to Wales in April might count. But, it was for a class. And, my wife didn’t get to go. But, despite that, it was very vacation like.
Last Christmas my wife and I went to Florida to visit family. That might count too.

3) What was the last movie you saw? Would you see it again?
Assuming you mean in the theaters it was Guardians of the Galaxy. As that was my second time seeing it I guess that is a pretty good sign I’d see it more than once.
I don’t know if I’d go a third time unless it was with someone else who really wanted to see it.

4) Do you have any pets?
Not at this time.
The last pet we had was a boa constrictor that some Buddhists guilted us into taking.
Eventually it choked on a rat and died. I did feel a bit bad about that. But, we never really got along.

5) Do you have a favorite ship? If so, what is it? (if more than one, just pick one)
I’m not a very nautical person. I’ll grant you two of my uncles and both of their sons are in the US Navy. And, they all probably have favorite ships.
But, I’ve never been at sea longer than the length of a whale watch.
So, I don’t really have a favorite.

If you’re talking fictional ships, that’s another matter. I love all sorts of fictional ships with a strong bias towards space ships.
Picking just one of those would be difficult.

I guess I’d go with the first one I really liked.
The one I remember watching back in the 60’s when it was first on the air.
The USS Enterprise. NCC-1701. As Mr. Scott later said “No bloody A, B, C or D.”

As an animal shelter worker I should not have giggled when you said that the snake choked on a rat... I guess I wasn't expecting that ending for a snake.

Some questions may brighten up the long Friday a bit :)

1) What is your favorite type of ocean life?
2) If you could live any place, where would it be?
3) If you could have just one superpower, what would it be?
4) Are there any other languages you wish you knew? (You need not restrict yourself to human languages...)
5) What is the farthest you've ever been from home?

What exactly is this raspberry treat?

Have you written the story with the boa constrictor up?

Good answers! Poor snake...I think my only "vacations" were when I went to Chicago for Comic Con and Traverse City for three days on a school trip lol

It started as raspberry shortcake: http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/raspberry-shortcake-recipe.html

Now it is more raspberries and has the cakes mixed in.

The snake story is contained in this post:

My wife and I are allergic to cats, so no cats for us.

Apple pie is very good dessert. I tried my hand at making a couple last year for Thanksgiving. They turned out pretty well.

I will take some questions if you are willing to supply some. :)

Happy Weekend.

I have two dutch friends who are highly allergic too but they have two cats. They're special ones. Russian blue's.
Allergic people don't react to those (most of the time)

ok .. how do you guilted into taking a Boa Constrictor by Buddhists ... and how does it choke on a rat - I thought that's what they ate??

The woman who owned the snake was from south east Asia where you can apparently release them into the wild if you don't like them.

We didn't think that would be good for the snake or folks in town if it was done here in our New England town.

At first she gave it to some Buddhists that she worked for. But, once they realized it ate live food they objected to it and gave it back.
As we had said we'd take it rather than have her let it go free, we ended up with it.

At the time we thought "we have friends who work in a science museum that has a zoo attached. We'll only have this snake the length of time it takes us to drive to that museum."
Apparently there was a glut of boa constrictors that year and the zoo wouldn't take her.
The Buddhists wouldn't take it back.
We wouldn't set it free in a place not suited for it.

We had her for about ten years. And, we fed her live rats.
Some times she had more trouble killing them than others.
One time, it was a very strong rat and it fought back more than she could handle.
The rat didn't make it either.
It was not a fun morning to wake up to that...

My aunt has a Russian Blue.
But, it still sets off my allergies.

1) What are the names and types of your fur kids?
2) What's up with Batman?
3) What was your favorite thing at Gencon?
4) If you could visit an event in US history, what would it be?
5) What did you like best in DC?

[identity profile] chaquir.livejournal.com 2014-09-14 05:29 am (UTC)(link)
ah bummer!! yeah it doesn't work for everybody sadly enough..

are you allergic to dogs or other animals too??

[identity profile] endlessblush.livejournal.com 2014-09-14 11:12 am (UTC)(link)
10 years is a long time to have a pet when you really didn't want the pet.

Things like that happen .. I'm sure it was quite awful to wake up to :(

[identity profile] fbhjr.livejournal.com 2014-09-14 12:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, to different degrees.
Rodents seem to be the worst.
Dogs seem to cause the least reaction.

But, anything with fur does it.
And, most perfumes.
Most flowers.
Any tree pollen.
The metal nickel.
Milk.
Some food preservatives.

Yeah, long list.
