The last light of summer

My flight out of Cincinnati tonight took off just at sunset.
There had been rain this afternoon and it was still quite cloudy.
But, as we took off through the clouds a shaft of light from the sun just on the horizon broke through and shot in my window.
Four hours until Fall starts, I knew this was the last light of summer until next June.
I reached out and put my hand in the middle of the shaft of light.
I held it there until it slipped past the horizon and went dark.
Summer has gone.
But not without saying farewell.
