Good shows, freak accidents

The day started off well with our regular historical program:

I like this photo as it isn’t clear what is going on:

But, when you zoom out some:

Sadly when I did my fight with Jose in the second round we had a weird freak accident.
He wears a hat. In the hat he put a straw cross:

I throw him at the end of our fight. His hat came off and he rolled over it. The straw cross almost took his eye out.

We were all pretty worried about it as it is so close to his eye. So [livejournal.com profile] morgan_lafaye bandaged it up and we found a way to cover it that fit the show.

His eye does seem to be OK, it just looks scary.

We’ve done that drop dozens of time. It’s the same one I’ve used with Tom many, many more times. It is just very weird to have that happen.
I’m glad he’s OK.
And, if we’re going to get injuries while doing a sword fight, rolling over your hat and scratching your face is better then something going wrong with a sword.
But, it bugs me.

Still, even with that, we made more money on sword lessons then the last 3 years of this show combined. So, we all went out to dinner.

straw is actually incredibly strong stuff when you try anything compressive lengthwise, there are recorded instances when lengths of straw have been driven through pine boards on a barn after a twister picked it up and threw it about. Its also commonplace in alternative and old fashioned building.

I am aware of the strength of straw, but I'm sorry that doesn't comfort me in the slightest.
