My previous pair of sunglasses I had worn for so long the (plastic) ends that go over the ears had worn away, so if the car had been sitting in the hot sun for a long time, since I keep the glasses in the provided sunglass container on the roof of the car, the metal frames would still become so hot that they'd sting a little bit when I'd put them on.
The replacement rubber ends I got from eBay were the wrong size, despite what the manufacturer stated. So I ended up having to cut a slit on the outside so that they'd fit, most of the way, onto the metal ends.
I started noticing this odd distortion in my vision, and eventually figured out it wasn't my eyes (although they are getting weaker but anyway), but turned out to be the plastic lenses on the sunglasses had become warped, and pretty much in the center of the lens. So I ended up buying a new pair.
I've tried to make a habit of putting them in the center console box during the summer. Most of the times I forget because force-of-habit.
