Off to the city
This morning we slept late, well for me, and set off towards New York about 8:30.
It was a very nice day and the drive through Connecticut started off as nice.

About halfway across the state, the road we were on stopped. They had a sign that said "we really think you should go some other way".

So we did. I don’t normally go this way, so I hadn’t know the 7 dwarves had set up shop here.

But, it is nice anyhow.

Not too much later we were in New York State.

And, at about 11:30, traffic wasn’t too bad.

After driving through Manhattan the parking garage seemed nice, quiet and relaxed.

We parked at the museum, but walked out the front door to go to another place.

We had wanted to see this over the winter, but it got delayed. It is only here one more week, so we were glad to make it.

It is a great exhibit, but no photos. You can see it on line here:

It isn’t huge, but was still some very cool things. My wife and I were both amazed at textiles remaining from 5000+ years ago.
Once done, back to the museum.

We ate from a food truck and listened to the musical group performing.
The food and music were both quite good.

www.acapellasoul.com if you’re interested. I got one of their CDs, but honestly think they were better live.
Then, into the Met to look around. As we go there a couple of times a year, we mostly concentrate on the special exhibits.

My wife is a bit fan of the Edo Period.

I love the blue in this.

If I’m in the wing for it, I always spend some time sitting here.

I like the colors of this.

And look, benches and books! Two of my favorite things in museums together!

They had plants too. Seems I can’t get away from plant sex anywhere these days.

It did overlook their Egyptian temple, but I didn’t go down there this time.

Given what a lot of folks I know have been talking about this week, this one seemed "interesting".

A demon tiger/man goes on rampages when drunk and kills young women.
A young woman at the bottom is washing blood out of some clothing while he is reaching for a refill of sake.

Struck a cord with me this week…
One of the other exhibits we saw was the Chinese carved stone exhibit. My wife loves carved stone.

She spent a lot of time there and there are a lot of photos of carved stone.
I’ll let her post about them as it is her favorite.
After that we went over to arms and armor. Guess we just can’t help it.

We were specifically looking at the special exhibit for the guy who started the collection 150 years ago.

They had some interesting things they don’t normally have out. Like this gun/dagger. You take the sharp point off to use it as a gun.

My wife and I found this very funny.

We’ve worked in a museum, so we know what "of very mixed quality" means and find it very funny.
I thought the feet on this one were quite interesting, but it doesn’t show up in the description.

My wife really liked the smallsword.

Then, we faced a dilemma. Our plan had been to stay for dinner, wait out traffic and then drive home.
But, it was only 3 and we had seen all we wanted to see.
There was a great deal more to see that was very cool, but we could try and beat Friday traffic out of the city and get home.
As we had just picked up Series 2 of the Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries and my wife hoped to watch an episode tonight.
So, we decided to try and race out of the city.
It didn’t work. Traffic was already horrible.

That bus to my left is about to cut across and make a right turn in front of me and almost squish me.
It didn’t. But only because I had a little car and fast reflexes.

This bus stopped and began backing up at us.

Good news was no one was behind me at the time and I could put it in reverse and get out of the way.
Never found out why he did that. There wasn’t anything in front of him at the time.
We did get to visit Broadway, even if not stop for a show.

But, soon we saw the edge of the city.

Sadly, the roads out of the city were full.

It started off scenic, but as we progressed it got less and less scenic. But, no less busy.

If this isn’t something from an X-File or something similar then I don’t know what is.

I liked this older building sandwiched in between the others.

South, go left or right for the same highway.
North go up the center.
How does this make sense?

After an hour and 20 minutes, we had gone 8 miles. (about 13km).
Most of that was on highway too…
At least we got across the river.

Finally, we made it out of New York and traffic was… No better.

But, at least the weather was… much worse.

At least it looked pretty.

We did stop at a drive through for dinner. Neither one of us wanted to stop for a longer time.

By the time we reached Massachusetts the rain turned into rolling fog.

Soon after, we were home.

The normal 3 to 3 1/2 hour drive took more than 5 hours.

But, we still got home before 9. If we had left at 7, even in good traffic, we wouldn’t have made it home until 10 or later.
So, I guess it worked out.
Tomorrow we just have to do 2 shows with only 3 performers, get my car repaired and meet a friend for dinner.
Should be fine.
