I’m somebody!

My new business cards came in today!
Now I can take part in greeting rituals of modern business meetings!
Yay!

(Yes, when someone hands you a card and you don’t hand one back, you get a frown. At least with the sales people who call on me. Maybe it is a meaningless ritual now with the internet and electronic contact info. But, it’s still a ritual.)

It is still a big deal

especially with the Japanese business-people I've worked with. They will often hold out the card in both hands by the very edges and give a slight head bow, and a deeper bow depending on how senior they believe you to be. The Chinese business people I've worked with seem to have a similar ritual, but they aren't as big on the degrees of bowing thing.

The new phone book is here - the new phone book is here!!! Yes, I like that movie, and no, I don't think you are a jerk!

Hopefully what happens next in "The Jerk" won't happen here.

Yes, cards are huge in China. I was instructed on how to take them, how to read them and what to do with them afterwards.
