The Clark code

I was thinking about how Arthur C Clark wrote his 2001 series of books, the second of which is 2010.
And, I was thinking of how people look through the bible for secret codes and such for predicting the future.
So, I thought of combining those and looking for messages in Arthur C Clark’s books. Two of the four books in the series have been made into movies as well. But, I don’t think they should be used for this any more than The Ten Commandments should be used to look for clues in Exodus…
The events in both the story 2001 revolved around the monolith. With most of a decade hindsight, it is now totally clear what monolith’s dominated the year 2001, the World Trade Center towers and their destruction on 9/11. (Don’t get after me for only noticing this now. People only noticed the “message” in the dollar bill afterwards. And that French guy gets 100% predictions if you look back at what happened. No so good going the other way.)
In the book 2001, the monolith encourages primitive humans to develop weapons and wage war between different tribes.
In the year 2001, the WTC encouraged one group of humans to attack another, then they other waged war back on another tribe.
Scarily accurate, isn’t it?
The other places the monolith shows up are the moon, and deep space. In both cases there are major communications issues. On the moon, it was a signal jamming others. In space it was the HAL 9000 computer that didn’t like the messages it was getting, so tried to break off communications.
This obviously was predicting how various people and agencies warned people about the impending 9/11 attack and the message did not get through. Strong signals that were not interpreted, or people not liking the message and “turning away the antenna”.
Of course HAL trying to take over the mission correlates well to the use of unmanned drones in the Middle East. Computers picking targets and terminating humans, just like in the book.
What fools we were thinking we were only reading science fiction!
So, he tried to warn us about 2001 and we didn’t listen. Now, we must try and figure out his next warning book 2010. (Oh ye of little faith who say “he was only picking an anagram of his best seller”.)
It starts with the Discovery, with HAL 9000 on it being in danger of crashing. HAL is the symbol of those people trying to warn us about terrorist attacks. Given the Christmas crotch burning terrorist attack last week, and all the new agencies saying this was a failure to detect terrorism, I think we can give that one a big check.
Now, it gets a bit harder to determine what is being predicted.
The character sucked into the monolith in the previous story comes back as some sort of space ghost to warn people of a big impending event.
The monolith replicates itself many, many times and blows up the planet Jupiter where it used to live. Well, we know the monolith is the WTC and that it was in New York.
I think he was trying to tell us that the Space Ghost TV show will come back on the air, and it will somehow destroy New York City.
Now I may be getting that wrong. With all these “code” things it is a lot easier to use it to predict things that already happened then to do things that haven’t happened yet.
But, if Space Ghost shows up on Cartoon Network, then I’ll start to worry…
